A video and music installation. The main theme of the project is the relationship between the individual and society, referring to the methods mass-media uses to transmit and communicate their messages. The work combines sound and visual elements to reflect and project on each other, the performers and their surroundings. The live sound is created using clock mechanism, pumps and musical devices which are amplified by contact microphones.

The project is a collaboration with Yehudit Mizrahi, Adam Beni and Doron Hirsch. Video by Yael Assaf.

The video was made with the support of Tent, Rotterdam and the Hangar, Barcelona.

Graduation film GRA

The film Everyone has to Get over his Biography is constructed of many layers, fragments woven into a collage, into a bigger image. Like a quilt where each piece is an entity in itself, yet when combined the different pieces create a new entity. The fragments are made using different techniques and draw from various film genres. The film investigates the subjective visual structures of which personal experiences are made.

Original text fragments from Eshkol Nevo’s short story ‘Zimmer in Givhataim’ are used in the film.

The project was created by 3 groups of different artist from a variety of art disciplines who were discussing and researching the question on a weekly basis (each artist through his own art form) on the project’s blog. The end result was an exhibition of the created works and a discussion at the Van Gogh Museum regarding the conclusions.

Rock n’ Robics is a project made for the Paradiso-Melkweg Production house. The idea was to create an aerobic workout based on Rock n’ Roll music and movements, designed for use at large-scale festivals.

Yael Assaf and Yafit Taranto acted as live VJs, using images from classic rock n’ roll videos, on which the workout movements were based.

A short film for the NPS micromovie project 2009.

The NPS chose 7 artists to create a short film around the theme of “phoning in public spaces”.

This short film, a collaboration with Yafit Taranto, sketches the tension between private and public and exploring the choreography of the masses. The storyline revolves around a chain reaction caused by a delay, based on the Dutch saying: ‘if you’re late in the morning, you’ll be late all day’.

Miss bond is a multi-disciplinary project developed with Paradiso-Melkweg Production house.

The project was based on cover for songs from well-known films. Yael Assaf and Yafit Taranto created the video which included images of singer Yasmin Kedar placed over scenes from the films.

The film is the result of a workshop given by the film maker Peter Porgacs (www.forgacspeter.hu). The challenge was to create a work within a week, using and relating to ready-made footages provided by the film maker.

It is the surreal story of a twin, a part of set of Siamese twins who were separated early in their life. The film deals with the questions what is normal, whether the outside can ever reflect the inside of a human being and whether society has somehow twisted the concept of ‘nature’.

The film is dedicated to Yariv Alter Fin, a dear friend and teacher who took his life.
